Back extension is considered the best exercise to strengthen the multifidus. They can be worked out with a back extension machine in a gym or performing back extensions over an exercise ball in the domestic setting. Back extensions typically involve curving your back, raising your head and shoulders engaging the multifidus muscles.

A strengthening routine, dorsal raise is also considered significant for multifidus. It is quite analogous to the back extension provided you don’t do any forward bend at your waist since you begin by lying flat on floor. Put your hands around your head and raise your head and shoulders from the ground position while your hips and legs remain flat on floor.

To pull the multifidus you can first perform a back bend. With your hands and knees on the floor and you slump your back downwards allowing your belly plummet down while your shoulders and hips remain upwards. Don’t flex too hard; an endurable back stretch will do.

The back arch is the second multifidus exercise for flexing your back. It features arching your back upwards like a cat. This pulls the muscles from the opposite side and aids to enhance the flexibility and endurance.

Since these workouts aren’t difficult, they are often ignored in workout routine unless we injure our back. The spine is a crucial communication hub of the whole body. A hurting back would hurdle the smooth functioning of your body.

Including multifidus workouts to your routine generates strength and flexibility in your back to enable it to perform different strenuous activities at ease. If you have had a back injury or persistent lower back pain, multifidus workouts will tone the muscles and relieve the pain.

If you have had an injury, seek your physician’s recommendation before doing multifidus. A five-minute multifidus can shield your back from days trouble when you sustain a back pain!
