Tinnitus is a medical condition in which you hear a sound without there being any actual noise or sound. It is normally a sign of an underlying or impending medical condition, such as ear earwax build-up, infection, and little injury from loud external noises. Tinnitus may range from moderate to appalling one depending — from an irritating sensation to downright obtrusive, impeding normal activities such as sleep, study and certain normal activities.

Types

  • Objective Tinnitus

In this type the sound heard by you is actually generated within the ear, normally these are muscle spasms that trigger the crackling or clicking sounds. This condition can also be diagnosed by checking if it beats in time with the pulse.

Subjective tinnitus is subdivided to somatic tinnitus and otic tinnitus. Somatic tinnitus normally results from injury outside the ear — anywhere in the head area and neck. Otic tinnitus is triggered by injury or disorders of acoustic nerve or inner ear.

Treatment and medication:

There are numerous way and techniques to deal with objective tinnitus but there is no certainty that any particular treatment will permanently remedy the condition. Different modes of treatment can, however, lessen the impact of tinnitus. Following are a range of methods; you may choose one as per your suitability:

  • Cleaning ear canal.

Objective tinnitus is triggered by ear blockage, so be certain that your practitioner clears your ear canal in a plausible manner.

  • Masking noise

In case when tinnitus obstructs the performance of normal activities such as sleeping, a device for masking noise can be accessed. Masking noise devices are normally attached with your ear and will generate a comparatively cosy sound that will suppress the ringing or buzzing in your ear drums.

  • Surgery

Like other treatments, surgery does not guarantee your tinnitus will be cured absolutely. It will simply do where the auditory nerve is divided.

  • Tricylic antidepressants

They have revealed remarkable results to effectively treat tinnitus.

  • Cochlear implant

Those severely deafened by tinnitus ought to undergo a cochlear implant to mitigate the effects of the condition.

  • Employing methods of relaxation

Relaxation techniques in any form whether yogic meditation or tai chi will help regulate your circulatory system. Breathing exercises are also important.

  • Exercise

Various forms of spontaneous workouts such as relaxation techniques regulating your blood circulation will in turn control your tinnitus.

  • Don’t use aspirin

Since aspirin aggravates tinnitus, therefore sort it out with some alternative for medication.

  • Natural cures

A few natural remedies help treat tinnitus, e.g. molasses, magnesium, baking soda and vinegar. Taking gingko biloba in the form of a tablet is also considered to be effective.

  • Avoid loud noises

Loud noise is particularly bad for the ones suffering from tinnitus. If you happen to visit to a concert or construction site, anywhere you can be subject to loud sounds, ensure to bring ear plugs to protect your ears.

  • Alternative medicine.

You can use hypnosis and acupuncture, but results vary from case to case.

  • Avoidance of nicotine, salt, caffeine and alcohol.
