It is advisable to drink fresh juices as the effects are positively told on your health. Water and juices are extremely useful in avoiding dehydration and also to treat headaches and sore throats.

Take drinks and fresh fruit juices rich in vitamin C. When done in routine, this will help improve and strengthen the immune system of the patient responsible to put a barricade in contracting a common cold. Supplements containing vitamin C are extremely vital in this sense.

Other ways to preventing a person from catching a common cold may include a regular intake of supplements having zinc because it makes the virus attack ineffective impede their mutation and replication. Try your best not to smoke while you have developed the symptoms of common cold. Smoking can affect the very ability of the immune system to fight against cold viruses.

Though medication has its own worth, but when it comes to catching a common cold, all a patient can fight against is to drink any decongestant, antihistamine or antitussives. Some naturally occurring cures can also serve as alternative treatment against common cold.  They may include ginger, calendula, echinacea and garlic.

Normally a common cold is cured within a time span of a week. The patients, who have been experiencing the symptoms for over seven days, ought to consult their physician. A doctor would definite administer some antibiotics to enable the patient fight against the very ailment.

However, if the common cold contracted so far is not yet gone even after antibiotic dose, it may run other such likely diseases or it can transform into fatalities like pneumonia, bronchitis and asthma. Apart from these, common cold can also usher in the development of emphysema, bronchiolitis, otitis media.
