How to Cure Sore Eyes

Conjunctivitis is caused because of an infection causing irritation in the outer part of the eye, specifically the inner eyelids. The burning sensation and itching may encompass zones of the corneas and the outer eyelids. People having contracted sore eyes normally have extremely red, itchy and irritated eyes. Moreover, it is a contagious disease, i.e. it can transfer to other beings through direct contact, such as with a handkerchief, towelette, or a piece of tissue paper.

Causes of Sore Eyes

There are three ways to treat sore eyes:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis

In this type of the condition, bacteria enter the eye and cause redness and irritation. In some instances of bacterial conjunctivitis pus discharge and the related complications are also witnessed.

  • Viral conjunctivitis

In this form of conjunctivitis eyes are turned extremely red — a condition famously referred to as “pink eye”.

  • Chemical conjunctivitis

The condition is triggered by allergens or some toxic chemicals (such as soap, shampoo, or rubbing alcohol) infecting the sensitive zones of the outer eye.

Medical examination and treatment

Both bacterial and viral conjunctivitis can be treated with ointments or eye drops specially designed to manage sore eyes. The most active element among a range of eye antibiotics is chloramphenicol, even though ointments synthesized from fusidic acid are also effective. You may need to be referred to an ENT specialist in case you have been exposed to these over-the-counter medications for a considerable length of time. To augment the effectiveness of the medication, you may require taking some antibiotics available in drug stores to do away with the infection.

Home remedies

A positive thing about sore eyes is that in most of cases, they cure themselves overtime. This, however, should never be taken for granted always and you must take initiative at your own to respond to the malady lest it should turn into something serious. Below are some remedies that you can apply in domestic setting to cure sore eyes:

  • Water flush

If the soreness of your eyes is the product of chemical irritation, flush your eyes with clean tap water just afterwards.

  • Warm compresses

Warm compresses can check the infestation of viruses causing viral conjunctivitis. To prevent your eyes from excessive damage, enclose a hot water bottle in heavy towels to sustain a consistent measure of heat than using mere warm cloth in routine.

Sore eyes could be painful, irritating, and may broadcast an unpleasant outlook. Having born these tips in mind, a subsequent judicious application would do a great deal to do with sore eyes, you can, at your best convenience, see the world — not just that, the world can also see you — with a delightful look!
